Utah State Capitol Tours Guide

Utah State Capitol, housing offices of the Governor of Utah and Lieutenant Governor of Utah as well as the chambers of the Utah State Legislature, is the house of government for the state of Utah. Located on Capitol Hill, the capitol complex offers a spectacular view of downtown Salt Lake City. After its recent reconstruction and renovation, it's no better time to explore the art, architecture, and history of the capitol.

Along with a Vietnam War memorial and the Mormon Battalion, the capitol complex and grounds cover a land of approximately 40 acres. Two office buildings, a new plaza, a reflecting pool and an underground parking garage are added for its renovations. Designed by architect Richard K. A. Kletting, the capitol complex was included to National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The building features a unique style of classical architecture, both interior and exterior. After completion of the renovations, visitors are blessed with a chance to see the murals, governors' portraits and many sculptures in this gloriously restored Capitol. How to get there and where to park?

The State Capitol can be easily accessed from I-15 either north or south. First you need to take I-15 to the 600 South exit. Then take 600 South east and make a left turn on State Street. Finally head up the hill to the capitol complex. Since the city is undergoing unprecedented construction now, make sure that you have sufficient time to drive from the freeway through the city.

Parking is not a big challenge there. Cars can be accommodated on Public Streets surrounding the State Capitol. And parking lots are available on the east side of the complex. For additional info on directions and parking, please visit:
